OVERVIEW
Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the lungs and respiratory system. This includes conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and lung cancer.
Pulmonologists, or lung specialists, use a variety of diagnostic tools such as chest x-rays, CT scans, and bronchoscopy to evaluate and treat patients. They also work closely with other medical specialists such as thoracic surgeons and oncologists to manage complex cases. Pulmonology also includes the treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders such as sleep apnea.
